Stinky Water

About 5 days ago, we started smelling a moldy odor which seemed to come from the hot water when we turned on the shower or kitchen sink. My husband thought it was natural gas. We did a test to see if it really was the water; we ran cold water into a pot and boiled it with no smell.

We called out the plumber. He was here for ten minutes poking around when he asked, "Did you recently get your carpet replaced?" "Yes, just about 5 days ago," dh replied. Well, we would have never guessed but the smell is the fumes from the glue they use with the carpet. When turning on the hot water, the heat will pull the fumes into the room and rise. He told dh to open a window, and the smell went away.

The plumber said that he would have never known had he not heard of another family who went through many tests in their home just to find out it was the carpet glue. Do you think he waived the plumber fee for his expert advise? Let's just say that if you're having this problem, I hope I've saved you at least $92.
